I chose this book for the Challenge "Germany and its Neighbours" as a book for the Czech Republic, as is born Franz Kafka in Prague (Czech author).
What is it?
I quote from the blurb of my output from 2006 of the Anaconda-Verlag:
"Josef K. is arrested wrongly on his 30th birthday and interrogated. The circumstances are bizarre, no one knows the law and the court is anononym. The debt, Josef K. finds him in like, without, however, he could do something . doggedly but unsuccessfully trying to defend themselves against the growing absurdity and entanglement, beats any warning against further resistance to the wind ... "
Summary:
As so often, I was curious and had even bought the book at some point. Kafka and "Kafkaesque" I had heard, but stop never read Kafka. That should change on the occasion of words Cat's Challenges.
The book consists of ten chapters. Under the chapter numbering is indicated in key words, or even who presents what is at stake, sometimes both. Although the story itself is told from Joseph K. perspective, but I'm not in shape.
the text itself, I felt because of the language and the text flow forth strenuous. To give an example:
"K. had decided to observe more than to speak, as a result he waived the defense because of his alleged late arrival and merely said: 'I may have come too late, now I I am here. " An applause, again from the right half of the hall, followed. 'Easy-to-extract People, "thought K. and was only disturbed by the silence in the left half of the hall, which was just behind him and from which only very sporadic clapping of hands rose. He wondered what he might say, all at once or, if that is not possible, at least temporarily to win the other. "

is in this sense, the text, some more complex the syntax continues. similar sentence structures to write and I read almost daily. It is fitting somehow that they gave me in" The Trial " meet among others the then legal system theme;). However, I would not mind have had if the language would be in "The Trial" was straightforward:)
Then there are the absurdities mentioned in the blurb.
So, like Josef K. does not know what rumors about him for whatever reasons and with what authority, for there was me, the reader. You could say well, I walked to Joseph K. in a dark forest without knowing the reason I'm in the forest and where I should go best: a star-like departure from the natural position to which you come back time and again because you meet thicket.
So I was with Joseph K. in the rafters of a house, where it several (!) are firms of advocates angle. Time it went into the kitchen with a lawyer, find a businessman told of his experiences in his trial. Then again, a court painter with intimate knowledge of the legal proceedings will be visited. Another time is performed in a cathedral a conversation with a pastor
The typical procedures, I present myself as a reader, such as arrest, interrogation, defense counsel, petitions in court, trial and verdict, law enforcement -. All there is in "The Trial", at least conceptually. The processes themselves are anonymous, but: It is vague from the lowest court, supreme court, debt, possible, but not really necessary inputs spoken. How long the process will take is as uncertain as the success or failure of law practice. Relations is the key word and yet you would never really cleared. The process is finally initiated, the blame must therefore be present.
Josef K. And yourself? I can understand him in his efforts, of course, to fight against the wheels of justice. The arrest and the process unexpectedly break in upon him and he tries to create the history of reason in the world. Who would be strange? How frustrating is it to get meaningless or contradictory information, see no progress, no progress in his efforts. Josef K. looks strange but to me, his attack on the example in the same apartment building resident Miss Burstner. Also seems me his perception of people, his conduct third gegenüberso sometimes strange and sometimes paranoid. The point is: I can not explain this feeling exactly. Perhaps because there is nothing that my perception founded. Or, my subconscious has something perceived what was not yet fully there:
When I chapter with the Italian customer at the bank read, in which the trade and the visit of the Cathedral, to make me a strange feeling:) I had something problems, K's conversation with the pastor from the derived earlier chapters. Although also used other people "have appeared easy" and K.führt to this more detailed discussions, but here I felt as if it were too fast. And then came the 10th Chapter ends with what K. 's story. So just be still described his conversation with Pastor and suddenly without interim report some time has passed and K is taken from his executioners from the home and out of the city brought?
So I have done something else I avoid before I write a retrospective. I have looked up the entry in Wikipedia for "The Trial". Aha:
"The Trial" is unfinished and then - this is beautiful - The order of the chapter is not secured. In the abstract: By and by are individual texts (chapters) written by Kafka, the play between arrest and execution, but this intermediate chapter of Kafka have not been written over. Apparently there are different views as to which sequences in the existing chapter between the arrest and execution are to be arranged. Therefore there may be an expenditure which is a different chapter order as my ... Granted, to the cathedral chapter and the last chapter I have not noticed, the order by then I was therefore quite as suitable.
What Kafka has embraced in his trial described him seen? I do not know. Since I do not know his biography other works, I dared not to suspect anything in that direction.
I mean, to have found religious allusions (do not know whether Kafka's intention in this is the approach): For example, in conversation with the painter Titorelli, the K. of the possibilities of the process informed
- carryover (Holding process in the lowest stage of the proceedings by judges influence),
- apparent acquittal (a type of petition the judges for temporary acquittal at risk of re-arrest)
- final acquittal was possible only by the supreme court, that was totally inaccessible,
I can imagine God as the supreme court that, at least during a lifetime, so is not available and therefore not his verdict. Now please consider that I belong to no denomination and had no Bible or other religious education: I am the sin of Adam and Eve went through the head and neck, that every person is born with original sin. However, I had also understood that God's son was sent to the people and by the guilt of the fall taken by the people. If I understand correctly, my idea would not fit again ...
law, corruption, windmill fighting Sexuality, religion and philosophy: No question, with "The Trial" Kafka throws a full swing thought impulses and puzzles in the room. Somehow ... Kafkaesque halt;)
